Heat-treated carbon-steel blanks receive a lustrous bright-zinc electro-plate, are hydrogen-relief baked, and factory dry-waxed to keep drive torque low. Radial serrations beneath the captive washer bite into steel or wood to resist loosening, while the Type F fluted point taps clean threads in a pre-drilled or punched hole — chips clear through the flute, and no nut is required.
