Heat-treated carbon-steel blanks receive a high-lustre bright-zinc electro-plate, are hydrogen-relief baked, then factory dry-waxed for repeatably low drive torque. A ring of radial serrations under the captive washer bites into steel or wood to resist loosening, while the Type F fluted point taps clean internal threads in a pre-drilled or punched hole—chips clear through the flute; no nut needed.
